Carpe Diem's GW Prompt - Kyoka - June 30, 2014

Today Chévrefeuille honored me publishing a Ghost Writer's post about kyoka written by me (follow the link to read the post). I first heard of the form at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai on the list of forms so tried to write one.  Then when Chèvrefeuille asked me to write a Ghost Writer's post for the form, I began to research and discovered a lot about the history and background .. it was a great experience learning about the kyoka! Thank you Chèvrefeuille for the opportunity you gave me!

It is an obscure humorous form mostly forgotten now days, since Shiki, many people use the tanka in the same way as the kyoka was once used,  though there is a certain revival in the western world of haiku poets.

Here is my effort:

shooting for the stars
desert plant in the front room
bloomed with water
on a rainy summer day
far from Mexico way

§§§§

prickly plants grow
like some people I've known
a little loving,
affection and attention
raises their seductive stalks

  2. There is a skill in having fun with risque (or risky) humor - something I think my whole family is good at. I have tried an failed at Limericks trying to keep them 'clean' and not quite getting the 'beat'. I think I understand the koyka now as, well good clean fun :) and even tossed in a third for you.
