[...] "Remembrance is a form of meeting". [...]
[...] "My house says to me, "Do not leave me, for here dwells your past." And the road says to me, "Come and follow me, for I am your future." And I say to both my house and the road, "I have no past, nor have I a future. If I stay here, there is a going in my staying; and if I go there is a staying in my going. Only love and death will change all things." [...]
nameless faces
echoes down an empty street
the past moves on
echoes down an empty street
the past moves on
contemplating
roads never taken
falling leaves
old photographs
people long dead but living
ageless in time
people long dead but living
ageless in time
ancient seeds
ready to blossom
in warm soil
ready to blossom
in warm soil
Ancient seeds waiting for that warm soil .... ah! This is lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen ... found this old photo of my great-grandparents and great-aunt and uncle ... know next to nothing about them ... but still they're somewhere in the dna ... a cool idea.
Delete...down an empty street the past moves on" Wish I had written that......opie
ReplyDeleteThanks Opie ... a fine compliment!
DeleteThose roads never taken are often guilt-producing!
ReplyDeleteGrandfather’s Hand
And so says Frost as well ... something we must learn to live with.
DeleteI heard the echo of Frost in those roads... There's always a reason for not walking.
ReplyDeleteAlways ... and besides once chosen, often the other road can no longer be found.
DeleteI love old photos. People always looked somber.
ReplyDeleteThe seeds continue to pass on to a new generation dont they?
Yep ... I'm Austro/German extraction, which I didn't think made much of a difference, however over the years I've met here in Trentino (Italy now but once Austria), many Austrians and Germans. Especially as regards the Austrians, I've discovered I have a lot of tastes and quirks in common with them ... things that have percolated through time.
DeleteLovely haiku to go with the old photograph...so special.
ReplyDeleteThanks ... I'm glad you liked them!
DeletePhotography was such a new art then that very rarely did anyone smile.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was interesting when in a movie I was watching that it was also common to have collections of photos of dead relatives.

Yes, I think your right about smiling. And cool about the mortuary photos ... I think I was around 9 or 10 when going through a bag full of old photos I came upon the photograph of my paternal grandfather in his coffin ... quite an experience.
DeleteNice set, and I love the photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks ... it was nice to be able to use it.
