Diwali - Haiku - October 24, 2014

under the new moon
a thousand leaves flower
joyous laughter

I'd only heard about Diwali recently, last year in fact, thanks to the bloggers who celebrate this festival.  So, I really don't know what to write about the festival itself, only having read about it.  However, in the darkest period of the year, in Europe, though we've forgotten its origins, we also celebrate a festaval of lights .. and I base my closing line, joyous laughter upon that festival, Yule.

Happy Diwali!

  1. Diwali is new to me too -- but so much joy in any festival of light-defeating-darkness. Loved the haiku -- :)

  2. Yule and Diwali are very similar to each other. Diwali is just as great as our Western Christmas. What a nice haiku Georgia.
