I never learnt to ice skate strangely enough ... though I did roller skate for many years. One thing I did rather often though was skate like the lady in the tanka ... sometimes managing not to fall. Here's the inspirational haiku by Jane Reichhold for the prompt I'm writing for this morning on Carpe Diem Haiku Kai
How I envy those who can skate gracefully and effortlessly! About all I can manage are circles!

I understand completely ... funny, I used to have no problems with roller skate but my angles wouldn't stay straight when I was on ice .. now I wouldn't want to try .. besides even the roller skates imitate ice skates!
DeleteUnique - very clever tanka, and nice haiku
ReplyDeletethanks ... right out of every day living ... the nicest tumble though was when I was putting my moped on it's stand ... our town counsel hadn't thought that clearing the parking lots was important .. we both, moped and I, gracefully tumbled. now that might have made an interesting tanka :)
DeletePoor woman -- "I feel her pain" --- have done that skating, flapping dance many a time ;)
ReplyDeleteNever been on ice skates; only *barely* managed the occasional roller skating. Quite envious of anyone who can do both (or either) gracefully. ;)
ugh ... last time I did that dance got myself a lovely bruise on my bum! I got a Girl Scout badge in figure roller skating and thought ice skating would be easy ... my ankles betrayed me!
DeleteI can se her flapping. Never learned to ice skate either, but there was a time when I could waltz or rollerskates.
ReplyDeleteCool ... I also knew how to dance on roller skates ... it was so much fun .. but never got into ice skating. Glad you liked the post :-)
DeleteSkating can make one look so awkward very easily. Before getting the knack of it there were the tumbles. Truly said Georgia!

yes with our limbs all akimbo .. it's quite a sight indeed.
DeleteNice Haiku. The lady is skating with great concetration.
ReplyDeleteYou're so right Usha ... and I myself have concentrated in the same way many a time. Glad you enjoyed the haiku.
