Fireworks - october 12, 2014

The area where the "Notte di Fiaba" fireworks display takes place ...

Riva del Garda means fireworks in the summer.  They have a couple of firework's events but the town is famous, especially in Germany and Austria, for the great firworks display that they hold annualy, in conclusion of the summer season, known as Notte di Fiaba (Fairy Tale Night).  The event takes place after a week of music, children's activities, plays etc. that follows a theme ... this year it was Robin Hood.

The firework's display, which is right over the lake in front of Riva, calls people from all around the area, and many people plan their vacation around this event.  If one wants to go and see the fireworks though, they must spend the whole afternoon and evening in Riva or they won't find a place to park their car, and what's worse, a place to watch the fireworks!  This year the fireworks display  lasted 45 minutes.

Of course, a video can't capture the excitement of being there ... but I thought I'd add this anyway.  And I'd like to imagine that this event celebrates Carpe Diem Haiku Kai's 2nd Anniversary ... with a beautiful bang!

Carpe Diem Special - St. Francis - September 29, 2014

Here's our last quote by St. Francis of Assisi at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Special:

[...] “A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.” [...]

shadows broken
by a single sunbeam
the white swan swims

Dragonfly - September 11, 2014

For the word (kigo) dragonfly on Carpe Diem Haiku Kai ... and coincidental experience:

in morning traffic
flittering magic creature
dragonfly in Riva

zooming through the sky
ignoring cars and buses
the dragon flies

Ghost Writer - September 11, 2014

This week's surprise Ghost Writer is Hamish Gunn of Cabin Fever on Carpe Diem Haiku Kai.  He adroitly analyzes a beautiful haiku composed by our host Chèvrefeuille and asks us to write a haiku or tanka about the tree of life ... here is my effort for today:

under the linden
cathedral colored canopy
the birds like angels
flitter from branch to branch
Riva's tree of life
