Writing with Robert Frost - Dust of Snow - December 10, 2014

sparrow at dawn
as it skips on the blacktop -
morning brightens

dull grey morn
a wayward snow-flake falls
upon her old tongue
the taste of Christmas -
her childhood joys

I hosted the Ghost Writers post today for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai after reading some of Robert Frost's beautiful short poems.  The idea was to write an all new haiku or tanka either distilling his poem (Dust of Snow) or to write about a similar personal experience.

Dust of Snow
Robert Frost, 1874 – 1963

The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree

Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.

A Dream in A Dream - Tan Renga - November 28, 2014

 Carpe Diem Tan Renga

This week for  the Tan Renga Challenge I'm honored  that Chèvrefeuille chose one of the haiku I wrote for Carpe Diem's Ghost Writer:  A Dream Within A Dream where we were to distill a great poem by Edgar Allen Poe written by Jen from Blog it or Lose it.   I originally  published the haiku on my WordPress Blog with the collage that you see at the top of the page.

a dream in a dream
sand slipping through old fingers
autumn leaves turn red

wondering where the time's gone
she walks alone in the park

sunshine streaks the trees
first snow flakes begin to fall -
early afternoon

Tan Renga - Early Morning from Bastet and Sekhmet's Library - November 8, 2014

For this week's "Tan Renga" at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai, Chèverfeuille has honored my by choosing my haiku that I wrote for Shuukan and published on Bastet and Sekhmet's Library on November 2, 2014:

The Shuukan prompt (HERE) was the OM - Om purifies bliss and pride (realm of the gods)  - from the mantra  Om Mani Padme Hum.

Rain drops

early morning
silence before the rising sun
raindrops on a branch

Here is the lovely conclusion created by our host which I enjoyed very much:

early morning
silence before the rising sun
raindrops on a branch
(Georgia)

on the deserted beach
I greet the sun with joy
(Chèvrefeuille)

Here is my attempt to write a conclusion to the "hokku":

early morning
silence before the rising sun
raindrops on a branch

in somber autumn darkness
tears fall softly in the woods

a yellow breasted finch
twitters in the dawning light
dispelling storm clouds
