Apples - September 24, 2014

For today Jane Reichhold's kigo at Carpe Diem Haiku Kai is apples ..

Anyone who's read my posts lately know that we've received a basket of first apples from a friend.  They're a tad green and very tart.  The smell of those apples though filled the room ('til we put them out in a cool dry spot) reminding me of the poor dwarfs in the Hobbit who had escaped from the Elves in barrels that had been used to store apples ... when I read this the first time, I was eating an apple, it brought the story alive!

ah ... tart and tangy

mixed in with spices and yogurt
Madras chicken

cinnamon and sugar

    1. You are always welcome ... have you tried slicing apple ring and grilling them ... you then put a little honey and chopped hazelnuts on them and they make a nice breakfast with green tea!

  4. Ah.... this is orchard country here -- the sight of apple trees almost groaning under their weight really comes alive in the first haiku :D

    1. Cool ... Trentino - Alto-Adige has specialized in apples ... we furnish Italy with that fruit. I'm especially happy you could easily understand the first haiku! It is a sight right now.

  8. The biggest orchards here are in St. Thomas and Scotland - all those ancient-looking gnarled trees .... Lovely in spring too.

    1. Now that sound like a great pie .. I'm going to have to try the idea (maybe with different fruit as peaches are long gone now and we've got the hard variety of pears).
