Writing With Sogi - Carpe Diem Haiku Special - January 27, 2015

 Carpe Diem Haiku Kai Special

Now that they end
There is no flower that can compare
With cherry blossoms

© Iio Sogi

This is the last prompt for Lio Sogi, an early hokku master, who among other things wrote a Dokugin .. a sort of Soliloquy no Renga ... the haiku above was the beginning of one of these Solo Renga!  I liked the idea and so thought I'd try to do the same ... beginning at where Sogi lead me ... mankind's tendency to always look for "greener pastures" ... perhaps in a season we've lamented so much about ... winter.   ;-)

Dokugin or Soliloquy no Renga

winter memories
so much brighter in summer
dripping  sweat

buzzing swarms of mosquitoes
heat haze across the mountains

hoping for a breeze
the screens keep
 insects out
dreaming of mountains

closing shades and curtains
to keep the hot sun outside

fields burnt yellow
cicadas shrill refrain
winter silence

Writing with Sogi - January 22, 2015

reflecting on life
this temporary home
before eternity

winter rain
sheltering in this car
looking back
reflecting on life's joys
reflecting on life's sorrows

yo ni furu mo sara ni shigure no yadori kana

life in this world
just like a temporary shelter
from a winter shower

© Iio Sogi (1424-1502)

in just one heart beat
the sunlight breaks through the mist
revealing the meadow

Writing with Sogi - a Troiku - January 15, 2015

hoarfrost

sparkling fields
morning frost becomes spirit
warm morning sun

§

sparkling fields
under the persimmon tree
a white blanket

morning frost becomes spirit
grass and trees sway
a warm morning breeze

warm morning sun
life shakes off cold darkness
winter birds sing

This was written for Carpe Diem Haiku Kai's Special #127 dedicated to Iio Sog with a request to write a Troikui:

Both grasses and trees
waiting for the moon
dewy evening

Our host's Troiku:

morning dew
vanished in a second as the sun rises -
life is short

© Chèvrefeuille

morning dew
makes the spiderweb crystalline
nature's treasure

vanished in a second as the sun rises
the fragile hoarfrost on the branches -
ice skating

life is short
I see the thin grey hair of my parents
I become grey too
